Ahrefs vs Asky: which fits your SEO and AI search team?
Ahrefs Brand Radar and Asky side by side: AI visibility model, technical fixes, CMS publishing, crawler logs, seats and pricing.
Jamy Wehmeyer
Co-founder
Ahrefs vs Asky comes down to what your team needs next: deeper research into search and AI demand, or shipped fixes for AI visibility gaps. Asky, the AI-native SEO and GEO platform from Asky Labs AB (askylabs.com), measures SEO and AI search and ranks the work. Ahrefs, which calls itself an AI marketing platform powered by big data, adds Brand Radar for AI search to its SEO index. If you are weighing an Ahrefs alternative, test both against our buyer's framework for AI visibility tools.

Ahrefs or Asky: what's the short verdict?
The two are built for different jobs, and that is the biggest trade-off: mid-market teams whose gap is shipping content changes, not research, land on Asky. Ahrefs is built for research depth: a backlink and keyword index, a 448M+ prompt index with history, and Site Audit with Patches. Asky is built to ship SEO and GEO work: one ranked queue, then approved drafts, refreshes and translations published into Webflow, WordPress or Sanity. Ahrefs' separately sold Letaido also writes to WordPress.
- Choose Ahrefs if link building, keyword research or market-wide AI benchmarks drive your plan.
- Choose Asky if you want SEO and AI search tasks ranked together, unlimited seats and approved changes written into your CMS.

Ahrefs
Overview
Ahrefs is an SEO data platform that now sells AI visibility too. Brand Radar reports mentions, citations and share of voice in AI search two ways. Custom prompts, from Lite, check questions you write on six platforms plus Claude. The AI Visibility Index needs no setup: Ahrefs asks more than 448 million questions derived from search demand in each chatbot's web version.
For action, the Opportunities report prioritizes content, link and technical tasks, and an MCP server comes from Lite. Letaido, a separately sold agent from $99 a month, writes WordPress posts and pages; its connector list names no Webflow or Sanity connector, though new ones can be requested.
Strengths
- Link and keyword data: 35 trillion external backlinks in its history and 28.7 billion filtered keywords across 217 locations.
- Instant AI benchmarks: the AI Visibility Index covers any brand or category across six AI platforms, with answers back to 2025 and YouTube, Reddit and TikTok indexes in beta.
- CMS-free technical fixes: Site Audit is free for verified sites. Patches turns reviewed AI drafts into live fixes you can publish, unpublish or roll back, by snippet or Cloudflare Worker.
- Bot data: Bot Analytics, free in beta on paid plans, sorts visits from four log sources into 12+ bot categories. Automated traffic made up more than 53% of all web traffic in 2025, according to Imperva's Bad Bot Report.
Weaknesses
- Per-user and per-platform pricing: Lite, Standard and Advanced include one user, extra users cost $40, $60 or $80 a month, and the AI Visibility Index is priced per platform.
- No free trial: Ahrefs never runs discounts, its pricing FAQ says, and points website owners to Ahrefs Free.
- Index coverage: Ahrefs says the index "may have limited coverage for brands with little or no search volume" and points less-known brands to custom prompts.
- Patch delivery: bots that don't execute JavaScript won't see snippet patches, though Ahrefs adds that "Google renders pages before ranking them, so this usually isn't an issue." The Patches help article calls Patches "a quick and temporary fix" for urgent changes or tests before the final change on your side.
Best for
Ahrefs fits SEO teams and agencies that start from links, keywords and competitive research, brand teams wanting market-wide AI benchmarks, and sites wanting fixes without a developer.
Asky
Overview
Asky is for teams that run SEO and AI search together: it measures both, ranks the work in one queue and ships approved changes into your CMS. Its remote MCP server brings the data into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.
Brand alignment checks what AI engines say against your brand profile and shows linked citations as a starting point for the fix. In a Gartner survey of 645 B2B buyers, 51% said they were more likely to encounter misleading information from generative AI than from a sales rep. Asky's third-party view ranks the third-party listings that shape AI answers by how often AI engines cite them. Asky also analyzes backlink and authority gaps against competitors to show which external authority opportunity is most valuable for the brand right now.
Strengths
- Content changes written into the CMS: approved pages, refreshes and translations in 27 languages publish to Webflow, WordPress or Sanity. Through Asky's CMS integrations for AI visibility, refreshes change only approved passages, down to a single Gutenberg block, Elementor widget, Sanity field or localized Webflow field.
- One queue for SEO and AI search: content, refresh, technical, third-party and discussion work ranked from AI citations, competitor gap analysis and search data.
- Crawler logs from your own servers: Asky takes a live snippet on Cloudflare or your own server, or CSV or JSON log uploads, and a connected WordPress site can add a daily import. Per-crawler detail matters in either tool: GPTBot's share of AI crawler traffic rose from 5% to 30% in the 12 months to May 2025, according to Cloudflare's crawler analysis.
- Whole-team access: unlimited seats on every plan, and a 7-day free trial that tracks your own prompts on three engines.
Weaknesses
- Built to act, not to index: Asky has no standalone backlink index, and its keyword research is not a keyword database at Ahrefs' scale.
- Your prompts rather than a market index: Asky's history starts the day you add prompts, with no YouTube or TikTok indexes.
- Fixes run through your CMS. Asky fixes supported audit issues there automatically or in one click.
- Plans, not packs: Asky tracking starts at €99 a month, including crawler logs, MCP and the ranked queue, while Ahrefs sells prompt checks alone from $50 a month.
Best for
Asky is best for marketing teams who want to take the new age of SEO and AI search seriously and act on insights. Asky’s automation layer makes it uniquely valuable to both small teams with little resources, or large teams that want to improve their speed and efficiency.
How much do Ahrefs and Asky cost?
For prompt tracking alone, Ahrefs and Asky cost about the same; totals split on what else each bill buys. Ahrefs plans cost $29 (Starter), $129 (Lite), $249 (Standard), $449 (Advanced) and $1,499 (Enterprise, annual) a month in US dollars, tax treatment unstated. Asky charges €99 for Core, €399 for Scale and €899 for Momentum a month, before VAT. Annual billing saves up to 17% on Ahrefs and two months on Asky.
Lite, Standard and Advanced include 150, 300 or 600 custom prompt checks a month. One check is one prompt on one platform in one location; a Claude update uses eight. Custom prompt packages add 2,500, 7,000 or 25,000 checks for $50, $100 or $250 a month, with or without a plan.
On Asky, Core tracks 50 prompts with 250 monthly credits, while Scale and Momentum track 200 with 1,000 credits apiece. Extra prompts cost €0.75 each per month, and one article uses 80 credits, which puts Scale's 1,000 at about 12 articles a month.
Take a five-person team already on Ahrefs Standard ($489 a month for five users) that wants 200 prompts tracked daily in one country on ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews. That is about 18,000 checks in a 30-day month, far beyond Standard's 300 included, so the cheapest Ahrefs route is the $250 package of 25,000 checks.
In Asky, a tracked prompt is one prompt in one country across your chosen engines: 200 in all. That costs €211.50 a month on Core (weekly queue, no publishing) or €399 on Scale (daily queue, CMS publishing). Without an Ahrefs plan, the $250 package can be bought alone (seat terms unstated).
When should you choose Ahrefs or Asky?
Choose Ahrefs when research depth and link data decide the plan. Choose Asky when a ranked queue, tailored insights and recommendations, and CMS changes matter more than market-wide benchmarks. Shortlists form early: 94% of buying groups ranked preferred vendors before first contact, according to 6sense's buyer report, a study by an ABM vendor.
Choose Ahrefs when
- Your SEO program runs on backlink and keyword research, with AI visibility as one more report.
- You need to benchmark any brand or category across AI platforms today, history included.
Choose Asky when
- You want to take action and move faster in SEO and AI Search, tackling the specific problems and opportunities that will move the needle.
- Your logs sit on your own servers or a connected WordPress site, and you want AI crawler visits next to the fixes.
- Run the custom prompts your Ahrefs plan includes before paying per platform for the AI Visibility Index.
- If AI crawlers are your audience, deploy Ahrefs Patches through the Cloudflare Worker, not the snippet.
- Keep paid Ahrefs seats for the people who research, and give writers and editors Asky access, where seats are unlimited.
- Model both bills on real prompts, engines and headcount: Ahrefs bills checks and seats, Asky plans, prompts and engines.
Frequently asked questions
Is Ahrefs vs Asky an either-or choice?
Not necessarily. Ahrefs covers link, keyword and market-wide AI research that Asky does not replicate. A team can keep Ahrefs for research and use Asky to rank the work and ship approved changes into its CMS.
How much does Ahrefs Brand Radar cost?
As of 30 September 2026, the Brand Radar AI Visibility Index costs $199 a month per platform, or $699 for all platforms with 2,500 custom prompt checks. Custom prompt packages cost $50, $100 or $250 a month, and paid plans from Lite ($129 a month) include 150 to 600 checks. Prices are in US dollars, with local currency in some regions.
Is Ahrefs Brand Radar free?
Partly. Ahrefs calls custom prompts free on paid plans from Lite: 5, 10 or 20 a day, or 150 to 600 checks a month. Starter includes none, and the AI Visibility Index is paid. The free AI Visibility Checker shows a one-time, limited snapshot without signup.
Can Ahrefs Patches fix issues for AI crawlers?
Through the Cloudflare Worker, yes: patches apply server-side, so the raw HTML a crawler fetches includes the change. Snippet patches apply client-side, and Ahrefs says bots that don't execute JavaScript won't see them, though Google renders pages before ranking. Any user can draft patches; publishing needs Project Boost Max at $200 a month per project.
Does Asky have a backlink index like Ahrefs?
No. Asky has no standalone backlink index, and its keyword research is not a keyword database at Ahrefs' scale. It does analyze backlink and authority gaps against competitors.
What should you check before you commit?
Ahrefs offers no trial, but paid plans from Lite include 5 to 20 daily custom prompts, and Asky has a 7-day trial, so test both on your own brand. This list fits all our vendor comparisons.
- Run the same 20 prompts in both and compare mentions and citations.
- Ask how each engine is captured (web interface or API) and in which countries.
- Confirm the billing unit: checks, platforms and seats on Ahrefs; prompts, engines and credits on Asky.
- Ship one real change in each, a Patch and an Asky refresh, then check the raw HTML and the CMS record.
- Check security and procurement needs, such as SOC 2, SSO and a DPA, with both vendors.
Keep Ahrefs for research depth; if shipping content changes is the gap, start with Asky.
